We have not been taking a break since the King Sized Bed was hung. No, Nathan has been working on a very fun and exciting project. The Soap Box Derby Car. Yes, it has nothing to do with furniture but it has everything to do with who Nathan is!! FUN FUN AND MORE FUN!!!
Nathan is the scout master for our local Boy Scouts of America troop. A month or so ago he sat his boys down and asked what they wanted to do this year. Weeding through some of the silly ideas of video game parties and water parks they finally got down to some really fun ideas. This was one of the ideas. Build and race Soap Box Derby Cars. So it is now into actions.
The National Soap Box Derby Association has a ton of great things but they all were more spendy than the troop could handle or some of the boys. So, what did Nathan do? He jumped right in and started designing a car that would only cost the boys $35.00 each. That does not include the shape and design of the body of the car. Only the mechanics to make it run and be safe. From there he is requiring each boy to design the body as he wishes using only recycled materials. Keeping all the boys on a level playing field. They have come up with some fantastic ideas and off course being farm boys, they have many materials available to them. They just have to go out and salvage them. They will be racing in March or early April. Can't wait to see all the finished products. I will give you a sneak peak at what Nathan as done so far. (Don't mind the junk everywhere. We have so many projects going at once there is little room for a photo booth...hmmm. That should be on the list of projects...)
His original idea was to go for a tow truck but realized there isn't much room for the back end. He is sticking with the semi-truck style though. Like I said, Nathan is only part way there.
And of course, he has to deck it out with all the bells and whistles. Or blinking lights in his case. And the stereo!!
This has been a fun project and he is looking forward to getting the boys working on their cars as well. With the help of their dad's these cars are going to be great!! Look forward to posting more pictures and sharing all their hard work pay off in the race!!
